SAFETY OF H1N1 VACCINE

Vaccination is the best way to prevent from getting infected from H1N1. H1N1 Vaccine stimulates an immune response that uses the body’s own defence mechanism to prevent infection. H1N1 Vaccine is made specially for Influenza A virus ( H1N1 Virus ). There are two types of H1N1 Vaccine.

!. Flushot : This type of vaccine contains inactivated (killed) virus, which is administered through intramuscularly.

2. Nasal Spray: This is administered through nose in the form of spray and also called as Live Attenuated Influenza Virus ( LAIV )

SAFETY OF H1N1 VACCINE :

H1N1 Vaccine have similar safety profiles of seasonal flu vaccine. The most common side effects following the vaccinations are negligible, such as soreness, redness, tenderness or sometimes swelling in the injection area.. While receiving as nasal spray , sometimes it causes slight burning sensation, which will be over after few minutes.

Side Effects of H1N1 vaccine:

1. Rarely people might have headache, muscle aches, fever, and nausea or feel tired after vaccination

2. H1N1 Vaccines can cause allergic reactions to person who has a severe (life-threatening) allergy to eggs or to anything else in the vaccine

3. Most common side effects after H1n1 vaccination are  sore and tender and/or red and swollen where vaccine was given.

SAFETY OF H1N1 VACCINE IN PREGNANT WOMEN :

H1N1 Vaccine have similar safety profiles of seasonal flu vaccine. Seasonal Flu Vaccines which are given to number of pregnant women for years with extreme safety. Hence we can consider H1N1 vaccination as safe to pregnant women.

SAFETY OF H1N1 VACCINE IN CHILDREN :

H1N1 Vaccine is considered to be very safe in  children.During clinical trials, 10,000 to 15,000 children and adults have received various manufacturers' brands of H1N1 swine flu vaccine. There is no serious side effects  reported so far.

SAFETY OF THIOMERSAL IN H1N1 VACCINE

Thiomersal is a mercury based preservative that has been used in multi dose vials of most of the vaccines available in market. This compound act as a preservative which will prevent the growth of microorganism in vaccines. Use of thiomersal not have any direct impact on growth of children.

SAFETY OF SQUALENE IN H1N1 VACCINE

Squalene is an ingredient of some vaccines to enhance immune responses which has been used in seasonal flu vaccine for a long term without any reported unsafe incidents. Squalene is naturally occurring substance found in plants , animals, and humans.

POSSIBILITY OF GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME (GBS)

GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME  is an immune damage syndrome which leads to muscle weakness and paralysis. But H1n1 vaccine have no proven cases of GBS

CAUTION WHILE TAKING H1N1 VACCINE

  • Never take this vaccine, if you are allergic to EGG.
  • Never take this vaccine if you are allergic to thiomersal.
  • Never take this vaccine if you are allergic to any vaccine before.
  • H1N1 vaccine doesn't provide immunity against other viruses causing respiratory tract infections.
